Dating from the late 19th century or early 20th century comes this fine batik traditional skirt cloth. Handmade in Java, Indonesia using wax resist techniques these were traditionally worn as skirt cloths or sarongs. This cloth is worked in muted tones of the earth; browns and blues on a taupe ground with a lovely madder red border. The panel has an all over diagonal design running across the textile, interspersed with hand drawn flowers
