These cards made it so that not only were discard effects such as the Hand Control spells neutered, but also to counter the hand destruction of Chaos Emperor Dragon which would be completely and utterly devastating otherwise

I think this definitely allows for more streamlined Meklord decks, as the Emperors can now be summoned from everywhere, so you don't have to worry about having them in your hand and destroying something by an effect at the right time
